The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) has since the beginning of this summer been working on issues that include measures to tackle climate change, renewable marine fuels, including the adoption of short-term measures to reduce ships carbon dioxide intensity and the way forward for a more sustainable merchant fleet on our seas.
In order to deliver viable and sustainable solutions, (That is in line with the original IMO strategy for greenhouse gases, which aims to reduce the carbon dioxide intensity in international shipping by 40% by 2030, compared to 2008) the industry needs a technology that is both environmentally and economically viable.
Swestep offers a sustainable and profitable solution that is scalable and flexible in regards to feedstock variations. It also gives the Marine sector a possibility to take control of two problems with one solution – “Fuel and Residues/Waste”.
Lack of clear definitions in the issues related to “RECYCLING” has for many years created misunderstandings and confusion.
The term recycling has for years been used to mark the waste materials that do not end up in landfills, nor have been sent for incineration. From the beginning, the general perception was that the term recycling is identical to mechanical recycling as the majority of recycling companies initially used different forms of mechanical recycling that were based on separation into different waste streams; metals, glass, paper etc.
– And it is neither viable nor sustainable that so much of the waste (especially plastic residues) still ends up in landfills or sent for incineration.
In order to succeed in achieving set climate goals, the market needs access to alternatives to mechanical recycling, which is today a priority, as it has its limitations and is both time-consuming and expensive “Mechanical Recycling” is not enough.
“Feedstock Recycling”, a broader form of “Chemical Recycling” must be seen as an important part of the solution, it is one of the most profitable and flexible recycling solution on the market, seen from both input material (feedstock) and end products.
We must also include “energy recovery” as an environmentally viable alternativ, in cases where the process is used for the production of renewable synthetic fuels.

My name is Karl-Magnus Mattsson and I am the CEO and founder of the company SWESTEP AB. My great commitment is to entrepreneurship based on climate and environmental responsibility.
For several years I have become increasingly concerned about the climate and our environment globally. Since 2009, I have been involved in new innovations for a sustainable society. With a vision to make a difference, I founded in 2012 the company that today is named SWESTEP AB.
A big reason for my commitment to climate change and the problems surrounding the environment was because during my travels working in the textile industry, I saw the environmental degradation that affected people's everyday lives. There is a great need for further sustainable development in the world and for all of us to change to a renewable and sustainable society.
To achieve this, greater cooperation is needed between politicians, investors, financial institutions and companies, especially new entrepreneurs who, with their innovations, can make a real difference.
With our Swestep technology we can convert all types of organic waste into sustainable green products such as energy, fuel, new plastics and new textiles. Our technology supports the circular economy and is applicable not only in Sweden but in all countries where there are residual products that are not processed in an environmentally friendly way. Economically, the technology is competitive against the fossil fuel and oil production. It is smart to produce new products and energy from waste and residual products and not to use arable land for this.
My wish with this invitation is to find investors who share the will and commitment to clean land, sea and air. Each country should be able to produce its own energy from waste and residual products in a smart and environmental-friendly way.

This could be Sweden’s and Europe's next big export business. A Swedish product that favors local sovereignty and self-defense. The patented innovation solves three problems:
The technology is based on many years of research and development and is a catalytic conversion process that, like nature, operates under low pressure (-0.05Bar) and low temperature (<300⁰C). All hydrocarbon-based material can be used (both organic material and plastic) as raw material. The production plant produces no toxic emissions and is scalable.
Start-up company Swestep is ready for commercialization. The technology has been proven in previous test- and production facilities (maturity level TRL8). Production capacity and competence are ready and high demand for the solution is confirmed in written LOI amounting to 371 €M. The company needs venture capital to establish a pilot plant and be able to provide guarantees for plant orders. We are looking for a capital of 10€M.
